Zurich, my gateway city, is where modern Switzerland shows its sleekest face. It's businesslike by day, buzzing with banks and innovation, but surprisingly vibrant once you scratch the surface. I’ve wandered along the Bahnhofstrasse, one of the world’s most exclusive shopping streets, ducked into quiet art galleries in Kreis 5, and caught sunsets over Lake Zurich with gelato in hand. Zurich’s food scene is thriving, from traditional Zürcher Geschnetzeltes to creative Michelin-starred surprises. And I’ll never get tired of hopping on a tram and watching the city’s calm precision unfold like clockwork.From city to mountains, Grindelwald is the definition of an alpine dream. Nestled in the Bernese Alps, it's one of my favorite places to reconnect with nature and breathe deeply. In winter, I’ve skied the runs beneath the Eiger’s towering north face, and in summer, I’ve hiked for hours through wildflower-dotted meadows where cowbells echo in the distance. The First Cliff Walk gave me one of the most exhilarating views I’ve ever experienced, standing on a suspended walkway, surrounded by glaciers and silence. Grindelwald has a raw beauty that humbles you, no matter how many times you visit.Not far away is Interlaken, perfectly placed between lakes Thun and Brienz. It’s long been a hub for adventurers, and for good reason. I’ve paraglided over the turquoise lakes, rafted wild rivers, and hiked trails that make you feel like you’re in a movie. There’s always an energy in Interlaken, maybe it’s the adrenaline in the air, or maybe it’s the people who gather here from all over the world to chase peaks and thrills. When I needed to wind down, I’d take a lake cruise or just grab rösti at a chalet-style restaurant with a view of the Jungfrau massif.Then there’s Montreux, my lakeside escape on the shores of Lake Geneva. It feels almost Mediterranean here, with palm trees lining the promenade and jazz music drifting from open cafés. I’ve spent evenings sipping local wine from Lavaux’s vineyards, and mornings exploring Chillon Castle, one of the most stunning historic sites in the country. Montreux also knows how to put on a show, the Montreux Jazz Festival is one of the best I’ve attended, blending world-class music with mountain views that leave you speechless.Switzerland is an outdoor playground in every season. In winter, I live for the slopes, whether it's carving fresh powder in the Jungfrau region, snowshoeing through silent forests, or sipping mulled wine after a day on the pistes. And when the snow melts, the hiking begins. Some of my most memorable adventures have come with a backpack, hiking hut-to-hut across ridgelines where ibex graze and glaciers glitter in the distance.And the trains? Pure magic. Nowhere else is getting around part of the experience like it is here. I’ve taken the Glacier Express and the GoldenPass Line, curling through valleys and over viaducts with scenery so beautiful it doesn’t look real. It’s slow travel at its finest—every window a painting, every ride a memory.Swiss cuisine might surprise you. Yes, there’s fondue and raclette (which I adore), but there’s also creamy Zuger Kirschtorte, fresh lake fish, buttery rosti, and robust mountain cheeses you won’t find anywhere else. Add in regional wines, crisp and minerally from alpine terroirs, and you’ve got a culinary scene that’s as diverse as the landscape.Switzerland isn’t just where I’m from, it’s where I go to feel most alive. It’s a country that invites you to explore, to breathe deeper, to slow down. And every time I return, I find something new to fall in love with all over again.

Traveling through Mexico felt less like visiting a country and more like being gently pulled into a living, breathing story, one written in flavor, rhythm, tradition, and wide-open landscapes. Each place I explored revealed a different layer of this country’s soul. In Mexico City, I felt the heartbeat of an entire nation echoing through the streets. The city was chaos and poetry combined, mariachi in Garibaldi, art in every corner, and the aroma of tacos al pastor wafting through neighborhoods like La Roma and Coyoacán. I walked beneath Diego Rivera’s murals, stood still in the shadow of Templo Mayor, and found calm in Chapultepec Park. It was history and movement, resistance and reinvention. Tulum, by contrast, gave me space to breathe. Mornings were slow, barefoot strolls along the beach, swims in sacred cenotes, and the haunting beauty of Mayan ruins overlooking the sea. The Caribbean air carried a softness that made everything feel more intentional. It wasn’t just about turquoise water and palm trees, it was about reconnecting with nature, stillness, and something deeper inside myself. In Baja California Sur, I discovered a land of contrasts. The desert stretched right up to the ocean, and each sunrise in La Paz felt like the beginning of something ancient. I swam with whale sharks, paddled through glassy waters in Loreto, and wandered the art-filled streets of Todos Santos, where every sunset turned the Pacific into gold. Then I headed north to Ensenada, a coastal town that surprised me with its charm, warmth, and world-class seafood. The waves crashed rhythmically along the malecón while local bands played at sunset. From there, the Ruta del Vino in Valle de Guadalupe swept me into an entirely different world, rolling vineyards under warm skies, boutique wineries with rustic tasting rooms, and meals that rivaled anything I’ve had abroad. There, surrounded by vines and mountains, I tasted wines born of Mexican soil and realized that this country offers refinement and elegance alongside its raw natural beauty. In Chihuahua, I felt small in the best possible way, I humbled by the vastness of the Copper Canyon and moved by the quiet strength of the Rarámuri people. Riding the El Chepe train through pine-covered peaks and deep canyons, I saw a Mexico that was wild, untamed, and deeply spiritual. Rosario, in contrast, was soft-spoken but unforgettable. Away from tourist trails, it welcomed me with honest smiles and days marked by simplicity, fresh bread from a corner panadería, stories traded in markets, the peaceful weight of tradition in every stone and chapel. Each place taught me something new. Mexico didn’t just impress me, it changed me. It gave me memories shaped by people, places, and the kind of moments you don’t plan for: sharing a laugh with a street vendor, watching a sky full of stars in the middle of the desert, or listening to the quiet roll of waves against cliffs in Baja. I left with more than photos, I left with stories etched into my heart, with deeper perspective, and with a lasting connection to a country that doesn’t try to prove itself but simply invites you in. Mexico is not one experience, it’s many. And somehow, I feel like I only just began to understand it.</p>

I spoke with him at length that afternoon and explained that we want to go on a 7-10 day trip to Switzerland. Before I went to bed that evening, he sent over a full itinerary which included flights, hotels, some meals, and recommendations for how to spend our time. All of this came in under our budget. Everything that Andy picked was fabulous, but since we had some extra money we added an extra night and made one or two upgrades.
