Star Class on Harmony of the Seas: A Seamless Family Escape

In May, we set sail on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas from Galveston, Texas, in a Star Class 2-Bedroom Aqua Theater Suite. This wasn’t just another cruise it was one of the most seamless, personalized vacations we’ve ever taken.

Pre-Cruise:

Newark to League CityDespite a nationwide United Airlines meltdown, our flight from Newark to Houston was on time. We stayed overnight in League City, which offered better value than Galveston. Lunch at Red River BBQ & Grill and a quick trip to Buc-ee’s (a must for first-timers!) kicked off the trip with full Texas flair.

Our Travel Crew:

We cruised with a group of seven: myself, my wife Ashley, our daughter Abby (10), my brother-in-law Bill and his wife Sharon, and Bill’s daughter Destiny and her 4-year-old son. Only our stateroom had Star Class, but the entire group benefitted from the perks thanks to our amazing Royal Genie, Berty.

Embarkation:

The Star Class Difference; Berty met us outside the terminal and guided us through check-in in under 10 minutes. Once onboard, we walked into a fully set brunch in our suite including a Mother’s Day cake for Ashley.

Suite 10730: Aqua Theater Views

Our Deck 10 Aqua Theater Suite featured two bedrooms, two baths, a spacious living area, and a balcony with a front-row view of the Aqua Show. One night, Berty surprised us with an ice cream sundae bar timed perfectly with the show. He also planned a birthday surprise for Bill, complete with custom cake and decorations.

Western Caribbean Itinerary

Though we’ve been to Roatán, Costa Maya, and Cozumel before, this time was all about enjoying the ship and Star Class perks. We toured Adventure Ocean with the kids, wandered the ship, and did two tours: the Behind the Scenes Theater Tour (open to all guests) and the exclusive Galley Tour (included with Star Class). Both gave us a new appreciation for the ship’s scale and operations.

Star Class Dining:

Our dining plan included Chops Grille, 150 Central Park, Jamie’s Italian, and Izumi. As Star Class guests, premium items were included no upcharges. One standout moment: after we casually mentioned loving Indian food, Berty arranged a full custom Indian lunch delivered to our suite. It was one of the best meals of the trip.

Entertainment & Service:

We had reserved front-row seats for Grease, the ice show, and the comedy club. Each was a hit in its own way, and Berty’s attention to detail made it effortless. From room service to daily suite refreshes, the crew was exceptional. Special shoutout to Rudy at the pool bar and our hardworking room attendant.

Disembarkation:

Berty escorted us off the ship and straight to passport control. We took Royal Caribbean’s shuttle back to IAH, efficient, clean, and worth the $35 per person.

Final Thoughts:

This trip wasn’t about port-heavy exploration. It was about luxury, simplicity, and connection. Star Class delivered beyond expectations. From show seats to surprise meals to daily touches of magic, it raised the bar for what a cruise can be.
