As we checked into our boutique hotel just steps from the beach, the scent of salty air and blooming jasmine welcomed us into the rhythm of the Côte d’Azur.
Our days in Cannes were a blend of indulgence and discovery. Morning walks along the Croisette were pure bliss—palm trees swayed gently, and the sea sparkled like a sapphire. We spent hours lounging at a private beach club, where soft white loungers stretched out along the sand, and attentive staff kept us supplied with chilled rosé and freshly shucked oysters. In the afternoons, we explored the cobbled streets of Le Suquet, Cannes’ old quarter. Its charm was undeniable, with pastel buildings, flower-filled balconies, and quaint bistros tucked into every corner. One evening, we dined at a Michelin-starred restaurant overlooking the harbor, savoring delicate Provençal dishes as the sun dipped below the horizon.
A short drive brought us to Monaco, the epitome of Riviera opulence. The winding Corniche road led us past dramatic cliffs and panoramic sea views until we reached the glittering principality. In Monte Carlo, luxury was everywhere—the polished yachts in the harbor, the designer boutiques, and, of course, the legendary casino. We stepped inside the Casino de Monte-Carlo, its gilded ceilings and sparkling chandeliers a nod to old-world grandeur. Though I played cautiously at the roulette table, the thrill of the moment was unforgettable.
Lunch at the iconic Café de Paris offered the best people-watching: glamorous couples, suited businessmen, and the occasional celebrity slipping through the crowd. Later, we visited the Prince’s Palace, perched high above the city. The view from the gardens was breathtaking, with the azure waters stretching endlessly to the horizon.
Our escape wouldn’t have been complete without a day in Cap Ferrat, a tranquil oasis compared to Monaco’s glitz. The peninsula was lush with greenery, its villas hidden behind towering pines and fragrant flowers. We started at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, a pink mansion that felt like a step into a fairy tale. Its gardens, meticulously designed with fountains and roses, offered stunning views of the sea from every angle.
In the afternoon, we wandered the coastal paths, where the scent of pine and the sound of gentle waves accompanied us. At Paloma Beach, we paused for a swim in the crystalline waters before settling into a seaside café for a late lunch. The simplicity of grilled sea bass paired with a crisp local white wine was pure perfection.
As the trip came to an end, I couldn’t help but reflect on how each destination revealed a unique facet of the Riviera. Cannes, with its vibrant energy; Monaco, with its glamorous allure; and Cap Ferrat, with its serene beauty. Together, they created a mosaic of experiences I’ll treasure forever. 4o
