If you’ve seen the movie the Holiday, well that’s where I am from, they filmed it in the neighbouring village.   It’s half way between London and Brighton on the Coast in are area called the Surrey Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which I totally agree with, it’s stunning.    I can be in the centre of London in just over an hour,  at either of the 2 main airports within 45 minutes,  or by the sea.    I love this area, it’s full of history, castles, sporting venues such as Wimbledon, Wembley Stadium for sporting events and concerts, Ascot for horse racing,  theatre, hiking, biking – to me it has it all, although you really can’t count on the weather, well it is England!    

Last year I went to the Christmas Markets in Bath, a beautiful city with so much history from roman times.  There is such a wonderful atmosphere at Christmas markets, if you’ve never been you really should add it to your bucket list.    I also went to Oxford, another city steeped in history and wonderful architecture.   London is also wonderful at Christmas,  the light displays in the different areas and the shop windows are all decked out to celebrate the time of year.  I loved it so much last year I am heading back this December.

Stonehenge is always worth a visit in my mind.  As a child you could park at the side of the road and walk over to it,  but now you can’t get very close and have to pay to see it.   Unless of course you go on the longest day of the year when the open it up for Druid ceremonies.  I have been a couple of times just to experience seeing the sun rise between the huge monoliths.  

London, well where to start, there is so much to see and do in this great city – if you want some help deciding just email me.    But please don’t forget there is so much more to England than just London.
