Fayoum, Egypt: Where Earth, Sky, and Silence Meet

Read MoreEveryone should visit Hawaii at least once if they can, it’s a very special place.
If you’re on the East Coast like we are, it’s a fairly long flight (11-12 hours direct) to Honolulu, with a shuttle to Maui, where we stayed.
Our hotel was the Hotel Wailea Maui (not to be confused with the Grand Wailea, another lovely place to stay). The Hotel Wailea offers rooms in addition to private villas with lanai (balconies) and a panoramic view of the ocean.
You can take a shuttle 3 minutes down the hill to the beach, explore the resort, shop in town, and eat the best meals you’ll have in your life.
Highlights:
Breakfasts were unbelievable, I had flowers on my eggs benedict one day.
Dinners everywhere are incredible, my favorites were Spago Maui (Wolfgang Puck) and Nick’s Fishmarket at the Fairmont Hotel.
My favorite non-restaurant dining was a private chef’s meal at the Treehouse at Hotel Wailea, a private dining experience featuring a multi-course dinner with a private chef, ocean views, and an intimate setting under a canopy of trees with a private chef, a sunset champagne toast, and farm-to-table cuisine.
Waking up at 2am to take a shuttle to sprawling Haleakala National Park, with the island’s highest peak, volcanic Mt. Haleakala for a (very cold) sunrise. This was a magical, unforgettable experience with stunning views of clouds below and a unique volcanic landscape.
Visiting Lahaina before the devastating fire that took most of the historic old buildings down but spared the 152-year-old Lahaina Banyan tree.
Driving the road to Hana, majestic cliffs, bluffs, ocean views, local roads with hairpin turns.
Booking a flight on a helicopter for a one-hour flight over many of Hawaii’s gorgeous islands, cliffs, volcanos, waterfalls, and seeing where part of Jurassic Park was filmed (O’ahu). It is simply spectacular.
Taking a flight and spending the day at O’ahu, visiting Honolulu’s oldest hotel the Mowana, c1901 and its Banyan Tree, having lunch in Waikiki, and seeing the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
It’s a once in a lifetime trip you’ll never forget.
