Driving from Miami to Key West is a scenic journey through the beautiful Florida Keys, a chain of coral cays and islands connected by the Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1). You can also fly directly into Key West.  

If you do decide to drive, the scenery along the route is picturesque, with turquoise waters, swaying palm trees, and vibrant tropical vegetation. You'll pass over numerous bridges, including the famous Seven Mile Bridge, which provides panoramic views of the surrounding waters.

Key Largo is the first major island you'll encounter. Key Largo is known for its coral reefs, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is a notable stop for marine enthusiasts.

Next is Islamorada. This village is often called the "Sportfishing Capital of the World." It's a great place to enjoy water activities, explore art galleries, and savor fresh seafood.

Marathon is located in the middle of the Florida Keys, and Marathon offers attractions like the Turtle Hospital, where you can learn about sea turtle conservation efforts.

One of the drive's most iconic parts, the Seven Mile Bridge, provides breathtaking views. It connects Knight's Key (Marathon) to Little Duck Key.

You will also drive by Bahia Honda State Park. This park is known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters. It's an excellent spot for swimming, snorkeling, and picnicking.

If you're interested in wildlife, visit the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key. This refuge is home to the endangered Key deer, a small subspecies of the white-tailed deer.

As you approach the southernmost point of the continental United States, you'll reach Key West. Explore the historic Old Town, visit the Southernmost Point Buoy, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife on Duval Street. Key West is also famous for its sunset celebrations at Mallory Square.

Throughout our numerous journeys, we have encountered charming towns, quirky roadside attractions, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy water activities. The drive is not just about the destination; it's about the scenic beauty and unique atmosphere of the Florida Keys.
