AWARD-WINNING ONBOARD CUISINE
Holland America Line’s commitment to wine begins on board, where the executive chef of every ship is a member of the prestigious food and wine society Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. These highly trained chefs not only execute unforgettable meals but also ensure every dish is paired with the perfect vintage. Hand-selected by James Suckling, one of the world’s most acclaimed wine critics and Holland America Line’s official Wine Curator, each ship carries more than 300 labels from over 30 countries. In addition, Holland America Line’s Culinary Council®, a diverse group of highly acclaimed chefs from different culinary traditions, helps guide the cuisine and inspire guests.
FOOD & WINE® SHORE EXCURSIONS
Holland America Line and FOOD & WINE® have partnered together for over 12 years to provide guests with an ever-expanding selection of immersive culinary-themed shore excursions. These excursions provide guests with authentic culinary experiences in some of the world's most renowned foodie destinations. Explore a family-owned vineyard in Santorini followed by a private wine tasting, sip an award-winning Syrah in New Zealand in one of Hawke’s Bay’s most renowned wineries, or enjoy sampling small-batch artisanal wine in the Annapolis Valley, Canada’s burgeoning wine region.
The only purpose-built wine-blending venue at sea, BLEND by Chateau Ste. Michelle, the most acclaimed winery in Washington State, offers passengers the unique opportunity to create their own distinctive wine blend from a selection of five barrels of single-vineyard red wine. Available on Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam, the ship’s resident wine expert leads an intimate group of ten guests who gather around a tasting table to learn about wine as they take an active part in the blending process. Afterward, guests are free to enjoy their one-of-a-kind creation as they watch the sunset from the privacy of their stateroom balcony or at dinner that evening.
CULINARY AFICIONADO AND WINE EXPERT CRUISES
For those who are truly passionate about their wine, Holland America Line also offers dedicated Culinary Aficionado and Wine Expert Cruises. These popular sailings offer guests the unique opportunity to vacation with like-minded passengers as they indulge their culinary interests with cooking classes, wine-making demonstrations, extraordinary dinners and the opportunity to meet and mingle with onboard culinary experts. Each of the Culinary Aficionado Cruises includes a member of Holland America Line’s Culinary Council®, all of whom are leading food and wine aficionados. The Wine Expert Cruises, meanwhile, feature experts from the esteemed Chateau Ste. Michelle winery who host an exclusive Cellar Master Dinner at Canaletto, Holland America Line’s authentic onboard Italian restaurant.
