Brittany and Sean had traveled together to the Dominican Republic and Curacao, but the young couple from Chaska, Minnesota, had to compromise on a destination for their honeymoon. Between the two of them, they’ve seen the world and visited fabulous destinations such as Nice, Prague, London, Barcelona, Istanbul, Montenegro and Dubrovnik. After careful consideration, the happy couple decided to visit three cities in Italy, but they decided to let the pros handle it, and they consulted a travel agent who worked out the details of what turned out to be an unforgettable honeymoon.
Was this your first trip out of the country? If not, what other international destinations have you visited?
This was not my first trip out of the country. I have been to Mexico a few times, the Dominican Republic and Curacao. I studied abroad while I was in college (2012). I lived in the South of France for four months and visited many places nearby. Prague, Paris, London, and Germany are a few other places I’ve visited, too.
What other places did you consider before deciding on Italy?
We talked about going to Hawaii or Bora Bora, but somewhere in Europe was always on our list.
Why did you decide to honeymoon in Italy?
We decided to go to Italy because Sean loves history and he really wanted to go back to Rome since he didn’t have enough time to visit during a previous cruise. I’ve (Brittany) always wanted to go to the Amalfi Coast since I didn’t get the chance to visit when I was studying abroad. And after planning a big wedding I wanted time to just unwind. So, we compromised on a history-themed honeymoon balanced with relaxtion on the Amalfi Coast.
Did you use a travel agent? If so, why?
We did use a travel agent because we were too busy and didn’t have the time to plan all the details. Neither of us had been to that area in Italy before and figured the help of an expert would be great. Our travel agent, Missy, was always two steps ahead of us and made sure we were more than prepared with all of our transportation arrangements, including ferry tickets, so there was no stress on our busy travel days. Plus, she was able to get us some special VIP perks!
Would you recommend friends and family use a travel agent for an international trip? Why?
I would 100% recommend that my friends and family use a travel agent, especially when traveling internationally, because there is more to think about and plan. And when you are traveling from place to place and not staying at one resort or hotel, the details of planning become complicated. Plus, a travel agent recommends things you would never have thought of, and you quickly realize how important it is, and that you can’t believe you didn’t think of it. They take the stress of planning off your shoulders, so you can just focus on being excited about traveling.
What was your most memorable moment?
There were so many! But my most memorable moment was having dinner at Da Paolino in Capri. It was amazing! The entire restaurant is located under these beautiful lemon trees and it’s tucked away in Capri. We had the tomato and buffalo mozzarella with basil leaves, Gnocchi alla Sorrentina and Spaghetti Paolino, and a bottle of red wine. I would never have known it was there had it not been recommended to us.
What were your favorite places to eat while visiting Italy? Was there a specific food and or drink you couldn’t get enough of when you were visiting?
Besides Da Paolino in Capri… our favorite places to eat would be the small cafes. We loved walking around and shopping then taking a break at a little café to relax and enjoy people watching. You truly appreciate where you are when you stop for a second and just take in your surroundings. And of course, we couldn’t get enough of the pasta and red wine.
Of the three cities (Rome, Sorrento and Capri) you visited, which would you say was your favorite? Why?
My favorite city would have to be Sorrento. I (Brittany) loved all the cute little shops and cafes as well as the beaches. Going from Rome to Sorrento was a drastic change. Rome was so fast-paced (like most big cities are) and Sorrento was calmer, which we liked.
What’s one place or experience you’d recommend to anyone traveling to Italy? Why?
The one experience we would recommend when traveling to Italy would be to tour the Colosseum – especially the underground tour. The history is incredible!
What advice or travel tips would you give to people heading to these three cities?
My advice would be to travel to Capri for a day trip, instead of spending a few nights there. I would also recommend carefully planning out your travel days so you don’t waste the entire day getting from one place to the next.
If you planned another trip to Italy, what other destinations would you visit? Why?
When we go back to Italy we plan to visit the city of Pompeii, because of all the history. We would also like to visit more cities along the coast, like Positano and Amalfi.
What’s next on your travel bucket list? Why?
The next place on our travel bucket list is Turkey! Sean has family there that we want to visit, and I have never been to Turkey; so, I want to see everything.
Would you use a travel agent for you next trip?
We will definitely use a travel agent for our next trip. It’s a no brainer… they make planning everything easier!
