There are many reasons why this exotic Southeast Asian island is quickly topping many millennial couples’ honeymoon lists. Bali is beautiful, exotic, relaxing, romantic, adventurous, and affordable all at once. You can chase waterfalls, do yoga in the jungle, snorkel around the beautiful coastline, and soak up the colorful Bali culture in temples like Tanah Lot or Uluwatu Temple. There is a perfect paradise vacation for every couple visiting Bali. Happy couples will find accommodations ranging from trendy backpacker beach-huts to super-sexy resort retreats, and everything in-between. My favorite resorts for honeymooners in Bali are the jungle-luxe Four Seasons Sayan (recently ranked #1 Resort in the World by Travel + Leisure), the beautiful seaside Ayana Resort Bali, the classic-Indonesia-meets-modern-luxury Legian Bali, the romantic Viceroy Bali, and the ultra-Zen Bambu Indah in Ubud.
2. French Polynesia
After months of stressful wedding planning, happily married couples should consider heading to the blissful, postcard perfect islands of French Polynesia, such as Bora Bora, Tahiti and Mo’orea. One of Vacation’s travel agents can plan an amazing post-nuptial getaway for you to stay in an overwater bungalow at a beautiful resort like the Four Seasons Bora Bora. This stunning luxury property is built on a private motu with impressive views of Mt. Otemanu. Another option is the Hilton Mo’orea, located 30-minute ferry ride away from Tahiti. This property includes overwater bungalows, a private lagoon, and an incredible spa that specializes in romantic rituals like Polynesian couples’ massages and tropical Tahitian body treatments. Regardless of which tropical beach resort you choose in French Polynesia, you’ll be surrounded by crystal-clear azure blue waters, colorful coral reefs, and fun island activities like sailing, diving with sharks, or ATVing around the islands.
3. Kauai, Hawaii
Many couples dream of going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. The Hawaiian Islands -- including the Big Island, Maui, Oahu, and Kauai -- are easily accessible from the U.S. mainland and you don’t even need a passport, which make these islands an ideal romantic honeymoon getaway. Kauai, the “Garden Isle," is the oldest and fourth largest of the Hawaiian Islands, and it’s the perfect option for nature-loving newlyweds. Kauai’s gorgeous Waimea Canyon landscape features a lush jungle and dramatic cliffs that drop into white-sand beaches. Whether you want to stay active on your honeymoon and hike the gorgeous trails of the island (my favorite is the Napali Coast hike), or you just want to lay on the beach or soak up the sun from a sailboat, there’s something for every couple on Kauai. My favorite resort for honeymooners is the St. Regis Princeville, a swanky Starwood resort at the foot of the cliffs of Hanalei Bay.
If you want your honeymoon to be a combination of off-the-beaten-path and luxury resort, look no further than Cambodia. On a honeymoon to this Southeast Asia country, you can explore ancient temples of Angkor Wat and then head to the coast for an unforgettable private island experience in the overwater bungalows at Song Saa Private Island Resort, where you can unplug from the rest of the world.
You may not want to leave your bungalow, but if you do, the beaches are pristine (and surrounded by a protected coral reef), the food divine and the island is picture-perfect. Go paddle-boarding, kayaking, hiking to a cascading waterfall, or simply lay in the sun. And, at a maximum of 25 bungalows, it will feel like you have the whole island to yourselves. Enjoy your bottomless glasses of delicious champagne while your marvel at your Instagram-worthy, luxe accommodations and postcard-perfect surroundings. Honeymooners will also love that all alcohol is included in the price of your room as well as food. The staff at this luxe resort cater to your needs and will make your honeymoon a carefree experience you won’t soon forget.
5. Lake Como, Italy
Lake Como combines the elegant, sleepy charm of an Italian village with the sophistication and stylishness of its rich and famous clientele. It has long been a timeless destination (popular among the European elite as far back as the ancient Romans), and today, I think it is one of the best honeymoon locations in the world. This is the perfect place to celebrate the start of a brand new chapter in your lives, if you enjoy delicious traditional Italian cuisine, jaw-dropping views of a picturesque lake and a destination that exudes romance. My favorite resort is the Villa d’Este, a classic hotel with 25-acres of gardens and breathtaking lakeside views -- it actually feels more like a private club than a resort.
