The French Riviera is one of those destinations that almost plans itself in people’s heads before they call me. They’ve got the images: Cannes, Nice, Monte Carlo, maybe Saint-Tropez or a day in Eze. What usually takes more work is figuring out which version of the Riviera matches the trip they actually want. May and August are different trips. 

WHO TENDS TO PLAN FRENCH RIVIERA VACATIONS WITH ME

Most of my Riviera clients fall into one of these. If you see yourself here, we’ll probably work well together.

• Families with a reason to celebrate: There’s a milestone worth marking and the trip has to work for everyone, from the grandparents to the youngest grandkids. A long lunch at La Colombe d’Or in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a catered boat day out of Antibes, a morning at the Grasse perfume workshops: those are the kinds of experiences that hold a group together without anyone feeling like they’re compromising. I focus a lot of planning energy on getting the accommodation right, whether interconnected suites at a Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat property or a villa outside Cannes with room for everyone.
  
  
• Couples who want the real thing: You’ve seen the photos and you want the trip to actually feel like that. A well-paced French Riviera honeymoon might mean waking up in a boutique hotel in Nice’s Old Town, a slow afternoon in Villefranche-sur-Mer, and dinner at a small spot in Antibes where the menu is handwritten. That is exactly the kind of trip I put together.
  
  
• Travelers who want to actually know a place: Not trying to cover the whole coast in a week. You want to go somewhere and actually settle in. A good Provence and French Riviera itinerary for this kind of traveler builds in the shoulder season, May or late September, when the Cours Saleya market is manageable, a half-day in Menton feels like crossing into another world, and a ferry out to Porquerolles Island is worth every minute of the ride.
  
  
• Art and culture travelers: The Riviera is a serious destination for you, not a beach backdrop. The Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Picasso Museum in Antibes, Matisse’s Chapel in Vence, and the Van Gogh trail in Arles are the kind of itinerary you actually want. • Marquee Event Travelers: Some trips are built around a specific week on the calendar. The Cannes Film Festival, the Monaco F1 Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, the Nice Carnival, the summer beach club season in Saint-Tropez. The planning for those trips looks completely different: longer lead times, fewer available options, and logistics that don’t live on any booking platform. That is exactly the kind of trip I handle.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What’s the best time to visit the French Riviera?
A: May and September are my standard recommendation. Good weather, open beach clubs, and restaurants that aren’t slammed. July and August work if school schedules require it, but book further out and expect more people everywhere.

Q: Is the Riviera worth extending into Provence or Italy?
A: Almost always yes. A week on the coast followed by a few days around Arles and the Luberon is one of the best combinations in European travel. Heading east toward Portofino or the Cinque Terre adds roughly a day of logistics and is easy to build in.
