Fourth of July Weekend: Why You Should Be Traveling Now

Travel Facts to Know Before You Go

For the Fourth of July weekend, 44.2 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home, according to AAA. And that’s really not surprising because, if you’re like us, you look forward to this holiday weekend to head out of town for a quick family vacation to the beach or for an extended European getaway for a river cruise. No matter how simple or elaborate your travel plans, here are a few facts all travelers should be aware of if you plan on traveling for the long weekend.

Filling Up Your Tank is Cheaper Than a Year Ago

You’re in luck if you’re hitting the road for the holiday weekend. Why? Well, according to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $2.28. That’s four cents cheaper than this time last year! So pack the kids in the car and try out that new ride at a nearby amusement park, take a road trip to explore the Great American West at a U.S. National Park, or find a fun getaway in your backyard such as a trip to a golf course or go wine tasting at a local vineyard. And you can’t leave home without a few helpful tips on how to keep the kids busy while you’re on the road. Check out our Road Trip Survival Guide… you’ll thank us later.

Airfares for domestic flights are 10 percent lower this year, with an average round-trip ticket costing travelers $186. And car rentals are 14 percent less than last year. Daily car rental rates are an average of $65 this year. Is that cool or what?! And now you can save a few extra bucks to spend on cocktails for a U.S. Virgin Islands vacay, or save money to help plan that fabulous destination wedding. Hey… every little bit counts!
